BARANGAY Ginebra playmaker LA Tenorio bagged his first-ever PBA Best Player of the Conference award, beating out Alaska’s rookie sensation Calvin Abueva in a race that was decided by a deluge of votes from the media and fellow players.

The 5’8” guard out of Ateneo, who trailed the 6’1” Abueva 424-427 in statistical points, earned the nod from the media (475), players (75) and PBA officials (150) en route to a 1125 points value.

Abueva, a one-time NCAA MVP, only got 295 media votes, 64 from the players and 75 from the league as he finished second in the Best Player of the Conference race for the second successive tournament in his rookie season with the Aces.

He finished a distant second with his 861 points value, preventing him from joining Danny Seigle and Eric Menk on the list of rookies who won the BPC award in league history.

Alaska got a measure of consolation when Robert Dozier beat Ginebra's Vernon Macklin for best import honors.

Alaska’s starting point guard JV Casio finished third in the BPC balloting with 514, followed by Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference awardee Jason Castro (416) and Globalport’s gunner Gary David (402)

Tenorio easily became one of Barangay Ginebra’s go-to-guys when Alaska traded him to the pro league’s most popular squad before the start of the season.

The talented Gin King guard now adds the Best Player of the Conference award to his trophy collection, which includes the Most Improved Player (2009-2010) and the 2009-2010 Finals MVP, who he shared with then Alaska teammate Cyrus Baguio when the Aces won the Fiesta Conference crown.

The 28-year-old Barangay Ginebra guard has done it all for the Gin Kings this conference, averaging 13.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists to lead the crowd darlings to the Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
