GINEBRA superstar Mark Caguioa blasted his teammates for being “too soft and lazy,” hours after the Gin Kings got their butts kicked by unbeaten Talk ‘N Text, 97-84, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Caguioa, who left the Big Dome in haste after posing for a few pictures with diehard Ginebra fans, vented his frustrations on his official Twitter account @official MC47, saying a Ginebra team that was once feared by opponents for its 'never-say-die' spirit has become too soft.
“Dati rati kinakatakutan itong team nato at iniilagan pero ngayon lahat ng team gusto kami kalaban ksi mga tamad and sobrang lalambot,” tweeted the one-time PBA MVP after the star-studded squad ended the tournament with an overall 3-7 win-loss record.
The veteran Ginebra shooting guard was the only bright spot for the Gin Kings during their horrible playoff performance against the twice-to-beat Texters, scoring a team-high 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting.
Caguioa, now in his 13th PBA season, said today’s generation of Ginebra players may be clueless on the team’s rich history back during the time of the legendary Robert Jaworski.
He went on to cite Ginebra’s stars of yesteryears who played under Jaworski - tough players like Rudy Distrito, Bal David, Noli Locsin even Pido Jarencio, who now coaches Globalport, who he said were all willing to make big sacrifices for the team during the team’s glory years.
“Kilala ba nila si Coach Sonny? Noli Locsin?Pido?Bal david? Rudy Distrito? Itong mga player nato makikipag palitan talaga ng mukha,” he said.
“Parang ito na yung mga player ngayon na parang hindi nila alam ang history ng GINEBRA. I dnt think they knw ksi parang walang mga pake,” added the 34-year-old, three-time Best Player of the Conference awardee.
Caguioa said that even if the NBA’s all-time winning coach and now New York Knicks top executive Phil Jackson would step in and handle the team, Ginebra won’t still make it to the semis.
“Let me tell u guys kahit si Phil Jackson mag coach sa ganitong team hindi parin papasok sa semis. Walang mga puso mag laro WALA WALA WALA!”
