    Dec 10, 2022

BARANGAY Ginebra and San Miguel aim to close their quarterfinal series on Saturday in the 2022-2023 PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Philsports Arena.

The Gin Kings face NorthPort at 4:30 p.m. while the Beermen collide with Converge at 6:45 p.m. in their Game Two encounter.

Ginebra and San Miguel notched a win in their series opener to close in on a sweep.

The Gins won over the Batang Pier, 118-102, last Wednesday to secure the Game One victory in the best-of-three series.

The Beermen extended their winning streak to five games on Wednesday when they outclassed the FiberXers, 114-96.

Both teams are not taking their opponents lightly in the possible closeout game.

"As long as we can focus on our defense, that defense will help our offense," said Ginebra coach Tim Cone. "That's what we are trying to do game in and game out."

"Converge is a strong team. They wouldn't win seven in a row if they weren't a strong team. We have to play harder," said San Miguel assistant coach Jorge Gallent.

NorthPort and Converge look to extend the series to a deciding rubber match on Wednesday with a win in Game Two.

The bid of Converge to extend the series comes a few days after the ballclub announced the appointment of Pampanga governor Dennis Pineda as team manager.

Pineda though will start the role in the Governors' Cup.
