Ginebra bringing in new import Charles Garcia to replace Shane Edwards

GINEBRA has decided to make an import change to make up for the momentary absence of Greg Slaughter in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

The Gin Kings are bringing in 6-foot-10 Charles Garcia to replace winger Shane Edwards, who was supposed to stand in for Justin Brownlee.

Coach Tim Cone confirmed the development on Friday.

“When we first contracted Shane Edwards, we believed Greg would be healthy and available to play, and Shane could play alongside him. But with Greg’s injury, we feel we need someone to replace Greg rather than play alongside him,” Cone said in a text message.

With Slaughter expected to be out for at least the first half of the eliminations, the Gin Kings are thus banking on Garcia, a 29-year-old traditional big man Cone said he has scouted in the past.

After going undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft, Garcia went on to have a journeyman career that saw him make the G-League All-Star team in 2012.

The Riverside JC and Seattle product last played for the Austin Spurs in the 2016-17 season.
