COACH Frankie Lim can’t hide his excitement as Barangay Ginebra finally parades “Twin Tower” Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar when the Gin Kings collide with San Miguel Beer in the PBA Governors Cup on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Lim admitted he has been intrigued at how Slaughter and Aguilar will play in his system since both went down with injuries before the start of the tournament.
The fiery Ginebra coach also sees the match as a good test of how Slaughter plays in the new system as he plays a familiar foe in Cebuano big man June Mar Fajardo in the 5:15 p.m. match.
“Maganda panuorin diyan yung June Mar at Slaughter,” Lim told Spin.ph, after the team’s shortened Saturday practice at the Xavier gym.
“I am as excited as they (Ginebra fans) are in seeing Slaughter play. Siyempre, iba na yung may Japeth at Slaughter ka sa loob,” he added.
“I’m excited just to see this team play kapag buo na sila.”
At 2-3, the Gin Kings have a lot of catching up to do in the race for a place in the top four in the playoffs.
Ginebra’s two victories came at the expense KIA Carnival (105-98) and Rain or Shine (93-81) in Dubai last week.
Lim said veteran guard LA Tenorio will probably be playing extended minutes for the second straight game since Sol Mercado is still recovering from amoebiasis.
Back-up guards Josh Urbiztondo and Eman Monfort are also expected to see action to battle San Miguel’s guards led by Alex Cabagnot and Chris Ross.
Ginebra will battling a San Miguel side brimming with confidence and on a four-game winning streak.
Import Arizona Reid is averaging 32.0 points and 9.7 rebounds to power San Miguel to a 4-2 record.
