BARANGAY Ginebra heaved a sigh of relief after it was determined that Jamie Malonzo did not suffer a major injury during Game Three of its PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal playoff against San Miguel.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone admitted the team feared an ACL injury after he hurt his knee in the third quarter of Ginebra’s loss to San Miguel on Sunday.
“The good news is that we had some MRI results and there was no structural damage,” said Cone. “We are so relieved.”
Not ACL, Cone heaves a sigh of relief
Cone said the team was already bracing for the worst when Malonzo was rushed to the hospital immediately after getting hurt.
“We were pretty sure it was going to be an ACL. The trainers tested the knee a little bit. It was a little bit maluwag. It wasn’t firm. They were all suspecting that it might be ACL,” said Cone.
Malonzo could be be back within 10 days
“Took the MRI, Dr. [George] Canlas took a look at the plates and good news is everything is intact. He could be back within about 10 days or so,” said Cone.
It was also an added relief for Gilas Pilipinas as Malonzo is part of the newly named 12-man pool that will first compete in the first window of the Fiba Asia Cup 2025 qualifiers against Hong Kong on February 22 and Chinese Taipei on February 25.
“He could be available for the window,” said Cone.
