BARANGAY Ginebra and Rain or Shine take their act to Guam next month as the PBA goes overseas for the first time this season.
The Kings and Elasto Painters tangle on October 13 in a lone Governors Cup game at the US territory in Micronesia which has a sizeable population of Filipino migrants.
The match will be the first to be held in Guam since Alaska and Red Bull tangle in the island territory 12 years ago.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said the game is a go despite Guam suffering severe damage to property after being battered by Typhoon Mangkhut this week.
"Nagpa approve na sa akin ng poster yung promoter so tuloy yun. Nakausap ko rin sila and wala namang nabanggit sa akin," said Marcial from Las Vegas where the PBA board just wrapped up its annual planning session.
During the four-day meeting, the board also approved the holding of another game out of the country for the coming 44th season, possibly in Dubai.
This developed as the season-ending Leo Awards has been moved to add spice to the opening ceremony of the league's 44th season that kicks off on January 13.
The move was made because of major disruptions to the league's calendar this year and the coming new season by the national team's campaign in the Fiba World Cup qualifiers.
As it is, the annual Rookie Draft is set on Dec. 16, at which time the Governors Cup could be at its championship stage since the league will take another break this November for the fifth window of the World Cup qualifiers.
