BARANGAY Ginebra and Rain or Shine look to take the lead in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Kings and the Elastopainters are aiming to close in on the finals in their 6:30 p.m. encounter.
Rain or Shine tied the series in Game Two of the best-of-five semifinals after beating Ginebra, 109-100, on Thursday. Reggie Johnson and James Yap made big shots down the stretch to wrest the victory.
Ginebra’s loss snapped an eight-game winning streak dating back to the elimination round.
Kings coach Tim Cone said he knew his team of Justin Brownlee, Greg Slaughter, LA Tenorio, and company will have their hands full against an Elastopainters squad that topped the elimination round.
“We knew this isn’t going to be easy, they’re the no. 1 seed and I keep saying that there’s a reason they are the number one seed. We saw it tonight. We just have to take the challenge.”
Elastopainters coach Caloy Garcia credited his wards for their play in Game Two, hoping they will continue to ride on that momentum for Game Three.
“We were down again in the first quarter but we never gave up. In the end we won it because we hit the bigger shots. And we played great defense in the last three minutes,” said Garcia.
