BARANGAY Ginebra is now on a three-game slump capped by a humiliating 77-98 loss to GlobalPort on Sunday - an inexplicable turn for a powerhouse squad tipped to dominate in the PBA Philippine Cup.
But no matter how deep the coaching staff dig, Jeffrey Cariaso and his assistants are only confronted with more questions than answers as Ginebra slipped out of the Magic Four after an impressive start to the season. Not even coach Jeffrey Cariaso had a ready answer to the team's woes, as an insider bared how he has been throwing questions to his assistant coaches.
"What's happening? Did we expect much from the players? Are we lacking in motivation? We need to talk tomorrow," Cariaso was overheard telling his staff shortly after the team slipped to 5-4 overall.
The Ginebra coach was unusually silent inside the dugout after the game, only muttering a few words to the players before leaving them to ponder on the embarrassing loss, a source said.
"I hope you only think about this game til 12 midnight tonight. Then tomorrow we'll be focused and better, " said Cariaso, as quoted by the source.
The soft-spoken coach then led the huddle and shouted: "In one, two, three... Stay together!"
Another Ginebra source told Spin.ph that the Kings are very fluid in practice, but seem to play on their own during actual games.
"Pag sa ensayo ang fluid ng team. Maganda ang ipinapakita. Pero bakit sa laro, parang may problema? Nagka-kanya kanya sila," wondered the Ginebra insider.
The mood was also somber as the players left the dugout one by one.
"Nakakalungkot kasi si coach Jeff ginagawa lahat eh. Kaso ganyan pa rin nangyayari. Masakit pa dito, siyempre pag talo, sa kanya sisi. Ang ganda naman ng plano niya sa team eh," added the source.
The same informant refused to comment if there is indeed an internal turmoil among the players.
"Frustrated lang lahat siguro."
