BARANGAY Ginebra won’t have to shed some holiday weight as it returns to action on Sunday night, taking on GlobalPort in their PBA Philippine Cup matchup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Scottie Thompson stressed the Gin Kings have kept themselves in game-shape despite the two-day New Year break ahead of their game against the Batang Pier this weekend.
“Okay naman, in shape pa din,” the Gin Kings star guard said in a short chat with SPIN.ph after practice on Friday. “Hindi naman kami masyadong nawala (sa shape). Hindi rin kami nagpabaya.”
Still, Thompson made the most of their break on December 31 and January 1 as he celebrated New Year ’s Eve in Manila for the first time in a while, counting down the break of 2018 at their home in BF Homes Paranaque, before going to posh Pico de Loro resort in Batangas in the morning.
“Family ko pumunta dito,” the Digos native said. “Okay lang, salubong sa bahay, tapos nung January 1, nag-beach kami.
“Lola, lolo, mga tita ko pumunta,” he added. “Kagulo sa bahay.”
Thompson and the Gin Kings returned to practice in the afternoon of January 2, eager to return to the court on Sunday, hoping to ride the momentum of their 89-78 win over archrival Magnolia on Christmas Day that opened their all-Filipino campaign.
“Para makuha lang namin yung rhythm namin this conference,” Thompson said. “Malaking bagay sa amin yung first game namin na naipanalo namin. Big challenge ahead.”
