Protest an option for Ginebra as netizens agree refs blundered on Pringle non-call

BARANGAY Ginebra has until noon of Monday to file a protest following its controversial 84-83 overtime loss to Globalport in their knockout game in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup playoffs.

Media bureau chief Willie Marcial said a formal letter should be submitted by the team before the Commissioner’s Office by 12 noon, along with the corresponding protest bond amounting to at least P20,000.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone vehemently protested a non-call by the referees on Globalport guard Stanley Pringle in the waning seconds of the extra period and the Batang Pier protecting a slim one-point lead.

The multi-titled mentor, according to Marcial, was asking the referees for a five-second ball-hogging violation on Pringle, who was trapped at center court by a Ginebra double team.

He later signed the scorebook, giving Ginebra the option to put the game under protest.

Sought for comment by sports scribes later, Cone kept his mouth shut, saying he doesn't want to talk so he won't say anything that could put him in trouble with the league.

LA Tenorio said he has no idea on what management’s plans are regarding the matter.

“I don’t know kung anong plano ng management and coaching staff. I have no idea,” he said afterwards

Meantime, the non-call has sparked reactions on social media sites, with most of them agreeing that the three referees erred in not calling a five-second violation on Pringle.
