TIM Cone lamented how Barangay GInebra failed to sustain playing 48 minutes of basketball against TNT Katropa, costing the team a 108-103 loss in its PBA Philippine Cup debut.
Certainly it's something the Kings can't afford to do it again especially when up against a team of Rain or Shine's caliber.
Cone urged the Kings not to let up when they face the unbeatean Elasto Painters on Sunday in the main game of a scheduled doubleheader at the Mall of Asia Arena.
"We did not play a complete 48 minutes in our first game. We weren't able to sustain our focus especially down the stretch," said Cone of the loss to the Texters, where the Kings failed to protect a 14-point fourth quarter lead.
"Obviously we can't do that against RoS."
The Elasto Painters are off to a hot start under new coach Caloy Garcia, winning their first two opposite Mahindra and TnT to share the early lead with Globalport.
Ginebra on the other hand is among the teams still to secure a win in the all-Filipino conference, giving them a sense of urgency ahead of the 6:30 pm encounter.
It won't be easy, and Cone is well aware of it.
"We know how good they are (Elasto Painters), and we respect how well they are currently playing," said the 57-year-old coach considered as the most accomplished in the league.
"We'll try to get off to a better start and finish stronger."
Phoenix (1-1) meanwhile, tries to sustain the momentum of its rousing 92-85 upset of defending champion San Miguel the last time when it collides with woeful Mahindra (0-2) in the curtain raiser at 4:15 pm.
