GILAS Pilipinas, bearing the country's dream of reclaiming lost basketball glory in the Fiba-Asia championships, graces the cover of Men’s Health Philippines on its 100th issue.

Read about the team's training regimen in the lead-up to the Asian championships in Manila in the magazine’s August 2013 edition, which has national stalwarts LA Tenorio, Gabe Norwood, Jeff Chan, Marc Pingris, and Marcus Douthit on the cover.

The cover story, 'Battle Ready,' shows how the team worked on the five pillars of basketball fitness: strength and conditioning, shooting, defense, court awareness, and nutrition.

Despite the pressure of winning it all, especially in front of the home crowd, the players say they are confident that they’re up to the task. “No matter what this team does, it’s always from the heart,” says Douthit.

Also in the same issue, Gilas coach Chot Reyes talks about the sacrifices of the team and the philosophies he instilled in the players in the article, 'Heart of a Champion.'

“The only way to win against much more superior teams is to do things a little bit harder than they do,” Reyes says in his interview.

There's also the 'Gilas Pilipinas Workout' where readers can try what the players do to strengthen their core, and build solid muscle for the coming tournament.

Another feature entitled 'Heroes of Health and Fitness,' pays tribute to the men and women who personify the qualities that has defined the magazine since its inception. On the list are fitness icons Fred Uytengsu, Toby Claudio, Freddy Gonzalez, and broadcaster Kim Atienza.

Men’s Health is now available at all leading magazine retailers for P140 and may also be purchased online at www.summitnewsstand.com.ph.
