GILAS Pilipinas mainstay Ranidel de Ocampo has been diagnosed with a herniated disc after a scary gym accident and is expected to sit out for six to eight weeks.
According to Talk 'N Text officials, an MRI scan done on the PBA veteran showed a 'small tear involving the disc in between L5 S1,' causing inflammation as well as the severe pain de Ocampo felt in his legs.
The good news is, attending doctors at the Makati Medical Center led by Mark Castro have ruled out surgery, saying de Ocampo will be administered with a epidural steroid injection on Monday morning to control the swelling and hasten the recovery.
Doctors also recommended best rest for two weeks. Conservative estimate for recovery is six to eight weeks.
The diagnosis still comes as a huge relief for de Ocampo, who team staffers said collapsed while doing squats with a 100-kilo weight during the team's weights training at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center.
