MARC Pingris won't be seeing his dad in France this year, but playing for flag and country in the Fiba-Asia Championship is something he can't pass up.
Pingris usually makes an annual trip to France with his family to see Marc Pingris Sr. during PBA breaks - a vacation he decided to skip after he got drafted into the Gilas Pilipinas team that is vying for one of three places for Asian teams in next year's world championships in Spain.
The San Mig Coffee star said he was so happy that his father allowed him to miss the family gathering and concentrate on the Gilas campaign.
"Well, sayang ang pagkikita namin kasi every August nagkikita kami, nagbabakasyon kami sa France. But minsan lang 'to dumating na opportunity na maglaro ako sa Fiba-Asia so mas pinili ko to na ang isang opportunity na 'di mo na makakalimutan," he said.
After cancelling a long-planned trip to meet his father, Pingris vowed to give his hundred percent as Gilas enters the next round of the tournament.
Pingris said it will be his father who will be visiting him instead, although it won’t be until March next year.
"Kinausap ko na 'yung daddy ko nag-paalam ako ng maayos," he said. "Alam ko sad siya pero sabi naman niya good luck and darating na lang daw siya dito sa March para bisitahin na lang daw kami."
"Naintindihan niya, alam din naman ng dad ko yung trabaho ko, naging masaya naman pag-uusap namin," he added.
The 6-5 forward said his Gilas experience will be one good good story he can tell to his son Mic once day.
"Gusto ko din naman masabi ko sa anak ko balang araw na nakapaglaro ako dyan (Fiba-Asia)," he said.
