GILAS Pilipinas' preparations for the 2019 Fiba Basketball World Cup will be the major topic when the PBA board convenes on Thursday at the league office in Quezon City.
Expected to be tackled in the board meeting is the plan of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to have Gilas Pilipinas fly to Spain and Russia to play a series of tune-up games before heading to China for the World Cup.
SBP officials and Gilas coach Yeng Guiao had a meeting a few weeks ago where plans for the national team were drawn up to be presented to the PBA board.
In their most recent meeting, the PBA board initially approved Guiao’s proposal to have twice-a-day practices but withheld the decision of Guiao’s request for a month of daily practices leading up to the World Cup slated August 31 to September 15.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial explained the decision was withheld as the Commissioner’s Cup Finals is set be held around August.
Also set to be tackled by representatives of the league's 12 teams is the question on whether PBA assistant coaches should be allowed to take on head-coaching roles in other leagues like the MPBL.
