GEORGE King had 44 points, Sedrick Barefield added 32 and Blackwater picked up its second straight win at the expense of Phoenix, 123-111, on Tuesday in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
King and Barefield delivered a lethal one-two punch as the Bossing put on a huge follow-up to their stunning victory over Barangay Ginebra last Friday to improve to 2-3 (win-loss).
Barefield hit a three-pointer at the final 1:10 mark of the game to seal the win, marking the occasion with another ‘Night Night’ gesture.
After his 33-point, 17-rebound effort against Ginebra, King hauled 13 rebounds for Blackwater in matching the performance of new Phoenix import Brandone Francis, who had 45 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
The Fuelmasters fell to 0-4.
“We knew that the new import is going to come in and give them some life, give them some motivation the same way it did for us,” said Blackwater coach Jeff Cariaso. “We were expecting them to be ready and to be good, and they were.”
“Him (King) stepping up and matching not just the points and all the numbers that Francis brought, but he matched the energy, defending, and doing all the things that we talked about in practice as part of the team,” said Cariaso.
Barefield had three rebounds and five assists, while also shooting 11-of-20 from the field, hitting four three pointers.
RK Ilagan added 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Troy Rosario had 12 points and nine rebounds for Blackwater.
