GEO Chiu is taking the challenge of facing tall imports and the best bigs in the country head on for the coming PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup wars.
The 6-foot-10 Chiu looks forward to battling against the likes of former NBA player Bol Bol, and other 7-footers in Sam Deguara of Macau Black Bears and Kylor Kelley of Converge, seeing it as an opportunity for him to learn.

“Siguro for me, I think that's a challenge for all the local bigs too,” said Chiu, who is finally playing for Terrafirma in the Commissioner’s Cup after being drafted No. 1 by Terrafirma in this season’s draft. “Kasi ngayon na wala na pong mga height (limit) na ‘yung mga imports, I think that’s a challenge po ‘yan.”
“For me, gusto ko ‘yung challenge na ganun. Mahihirapan na kung mahirapan. Mas okay na mahirapan kesa relax lang. Ngayon, we have a 7-6 import, that’s a challenge. And as a rookie, that’s I want, a challenge. And we just embrace it,” he continued.
Chiu is familiar with the tallest import of the them all in Deguara, who he played during his brief stint with the Taiwan Mustangs.
“We’ll get there,” said Chiu on how plans to defend the likes of Deguara, Bol, and Kelley. “Siguro ngayon wala pa po masyado.
“Pero si Sam naman, I’ve played with Sam, he’s my (former) teammate. So hopefully he’ll go chill on me,” Chiu said in jest.
“But ako naman po, I’ll just take this. I'm working on myself more to the team, so ‘yang mga ‘yan, we’ll face it, (we’ll) cross the bridge (when we get there).”
Chiu is also exciting to go up against nine-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo in his rookie season in the league.
“Exciting po ‘yan,” said Chiu. “I’m excited to play against him. Alam ko mahihirapan ako, but like what I said earlier, that’s a challenge na I want to take.”
