FOR months, Gelo Alolino kept himself busy coaching a college team while waiting for the next playing opportunity.
It came on Monday.
The former National University star's PBA career got a new lease on life when he was signed to a short-term deal by Converge in time for its campaign in the Season 49 Philippine Cup playoffs.

The second-round pick of Phoenix in the 2016 PBA draft saw his nine-year stint in the pro league come to an abrupt end when he was left unsigned by Terrafirma when his old contract expired last November.
The six-foot guard spent the past months coaching Regis Marie College in Paranaque in the inaugural season of the UCPL and kept himself in shape, which proved to be a sound decision when the call-up from Converge came.

Converge deputy Gov. Dennis 'Delta' Pineda said Alolino was signed to a one-conference deal as back-up in the point guard position, where Alec Stockton is the starter.
The 31-year old makes his Converge debut as early as the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals where the fifth-seeded FiberXers take on twice-to-beat Barangay Ginebra, seeded fourth, beginning on Friday.
