GARY David still took part of the blame despite almost becoming the hero for the Bolts in their 93-91 loss to NLEX in the PBA Philippine Cup on Tuesday.
The Bolts gunner buried a left-wing three-pointer off a broken play that gave his team a momentary 91-90 lead with 10 seconds left, but later rued committing errors down the stretch that did Meralco in.
“Yung end game talaga ang dapat solusyunan," David said. “Sabi nga ni coach (Norman Black), be smart sa mga end game decisions. Ako, nagkulang din ako, natakam. Mentality na din ng player.”
David finished with 19 points, but made only seven of his 16 attempts for 43 percent in 28 minutes as he took some rushed shots in the endgame.
The Gilas Pilipinas guard also committed a turnover that saw him step out of bounds after going the length of the court in a sequence that gave the Bolts another chance to steal the game.
“’Di natin ma-blame yung referee,” David said of his error. “Tough loss talaga. Nakakapanghinayang.”
Still, the 37-year-old cager can take some positives despite Meralco reeling to its sixth loss in seven games.
“Itong mga game na ito, mas maganda na yung tinatakbo namin,” David said. “Ang maganda ngayon, yung character ng team to get back to the game, andun.
"Yung eagerness na ma-overcome yung lamang ng kalaban, nakakapag-decide kami ng maganda.”
