KIA Picanto has put gunner Gary David on the unrestricted free agent list (with right to salary) in the ongoing PBA Governors Cup, making the veteran gunner available in the market if and when another ballclub is interested in tapping his services.

David has a contract with the Picanto that runs until the end of the current season.

The many-time league scoring champion is the second veteran player the franchise has relegated to the unrestricted free agent list after Ryan Arana, who has since found a new team at GlobalPort.

Veteran agent Danny Espiritu, who represents David, said the terms of Arana's exit can be applied to ‘El Granada.’ KIA bought out the remaining contract of the shooting guard from La Salle before Arana signed a new deal with the Batang Pier.

“Either that or i-assume ng team na kukuha sa kanya yung contract niya with KIA,” said Espiritu.

David, a former Best Player of the Conference awardee and two-time Mythical First Team member who once donned the Gilas Pilipinas jersey, is currently in his hometown in Dinalupihan, Bataan.

Espiritu said he has no idea if Alab Pilipinas, which represents the country in the Asean Basketball League (ABL), is interested in getting David for the coming new season.

“Walang formal na alok naman. May mga naririnig lang ako feelers, pero hanggang doon lang,” he added.

Besides, he doesn’t know if Alab would be willing to assume David’s contract with KIA.

David was used sparingly by KIA deputy Chris Gavina this season, although there was one game in the Commissioner’s Cup where the 39-year-old shooting guard showed flashes of his deadly form by exploding for all of his 13 points in the fourth quarter of a close loss to Rain or Shine.

David also had a 15-point fourth quarter explosion for Mighty Sports in a 94-80 win over Ball Above during the Dubai International Basketball Tournament. He scored all of his output by firing five three-pointers in the payoff period.
