Gary David granted rare home pass as he seeks to rediscover old shooting form

    Aug 8, 2013

GARY David has been given a rare home pass on Thursday as the Gilas Pilipinas gunner continues to search for answers to his shooting slump in the 27th Fiba-Asia championships.

David, billeted with the rest of the Gilas team at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati since last week, was allowed to go home and spend two hours with his wife Jenn and three kids including 11-moth-old daughter Jeylaa.

A return to his old routine and some home cooking should work wonders for David, who is looking to recapture the shooting touch that made him one of the most feared gunners in the PBA heading into the tournament's most crucial stretch.

His wife Jenn shared to how happy Gary was, from the time he shared the news that he was coming home by echoing the words made famous by a celebrity recently involved in a high-profile breakup.

'El Granada' has yet to explode in the tournament, logging just 2.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and .5 assists per game as his role steadily diminished from starter to a six-minute-a-game back-up.

Jenn hopes the time he spent with family will do David a world of good.

One of those who believe David is due for a breakout game is Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao, who described the Globalport guard as "thick-faced," but in a good way, of course.

“Si Gary makapal ang mukha nyan,” said Guiao. “Shooter talaga 'yan. Pag may butas - tira!”

The coach who has turned a lot of unheralded players into league stars believes it's only a matter of time before David regains his old shooting form.

“One of these days he is going to fix his shooting drought,” Guiao said of David.
