Gary David insists he won't be starved for shots while playing alongside Meralco import

GARY David insisted he can co-exist with Meralco import Andre Emmett despite the star local’s sub-par showing in the Bolts’ 92-73 loss to Globalport in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Tuesday night.

The Meralco gunner basically plays the same position as Emmett, relegating the former league scoring champion to the bench as the team’s sixth man.

As a result, the volume-shooting David was limited to just eight attempts, making two, as he never found his rhythm to end up with just five points along with five boards and one assist in 26 minutes.

But the 11-year veteran believes he can complement Emmett, who scattered 41 points on 21 shots in 46 minutes.

“Kailangan ko mag-adjust,” David told Spin.ph after the game. “Team basketball ‘yan. Hindi ko gagawing excuse dahil ganun laro ko.”

“Andre is a good player. Nakita naman namin sa practice ‘yun (na kaya namin mag-co-exist),” he added. “Kailangan lang namin mag-adjust at kailangan namin siya tulungan.”

David stressed the team’s problem is its lack of frontcourt depth and size, as reflected in the Batang Pier’s huge edge in rebounds, 66-46.

Cliff Hodge, who stands 6-5, and the 6-foot-4 John Ferriols had to turns guarding Globalport’s seven-foot import, Patrick O’Bryant.

“Kitang-kita yung kakulangan namin sa team — big man — pero there’s no reason (to complain),” David said. “A loss is a loss. Kailangan namin i-evaluate namin kung ano yung kailangan i-improve pa.”
