GARVO Lanete is not expected to make his NorthPort debut on Wednesday against Blackwater in the PBA Philippine Cup.
A trade was approved on Tuesday with Lanete moving to NorthPort in exchange of Meralco’s 2020 second-round draft pick.
With the trade only being approved on Tuesday, NorthPort team manager Bonnie Tan said Lanete only showed up but didn’t join the team’s practices.
That means Lanete unlikely to play on Wednesday in the Batang Pier’s season opener against the Elite at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
“Definitely, he will play on Sunday’s game against NLEX,” Tan said.
Incidentally, Lanete began his PBA career with NLEX after being drafted sixth overall by the Road Warriors in 2015. The former San Beda cager also spent his PBA D-League career with NLEX.
In 2017, Lanete was shipped from NLEX to Meralco in a four-team trade along with TNT and GlobalPort that sent Larry Fonacier and JR Quinahan to NLEX, Anthony Semerad to TNT, and Sean Anthony, Bradwyn Guinto, and Jonathan Grey to GlobalPort.
