THE combined star power of 'The Beast' and 'The Blur' simply can't hold a candle to the biggest pop act in the world today.
Game One of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals pitting Calvin Abueva's Alaska Milk against the top-seeded Talk 'N Text team led by Jason Castro had to be moved to the Smart Araneta Coliseum and moved up a day, bumped off from the MOA Arena by Korean global star Psy and his 'Gangnam Style' craze.
The Talk N' Text-Alaska match kicking off their best-of-seven semifinal series was supposed to be held on Thursday at the MOA Arena as the league continues its recent strategy of holding semifinal matches separately.
However, PBA media bureau chief Willy Marcial said he was informed by MOA Arena general manager Arnel Gonzales that the league's booking had to be cancelled to give way to Psy's Manila concert.
Originally, Marcial said Psy was supposed to hold his concert at the MOA open grounds, but he belatedly decided to move it indoors, bumping off the PBA game from the MOA Arena's Thursday schedule.
With the nearby Cuneta Astrodome as well as Araneta also unavailable on Thursday, the league was left with no choice but to make its Wednesday playdate at the Big Dome a double-header, with the TNT-Alaska game played after the opener of the other semifinal series pitting Rain or Shine and San Mig Coffee.
Incidentally, the Wednesday playdate will be the last the league will hold at Araneta for the year since the historic coliseum will be unavailable due to its traditional 'Holiday on Ice' show.
