GAME Seven of the PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup Finals between San Mig and Barangay Ginebra was not only a blockbuster at the gates but apparently a big hit in the television ratings game as well.
According to TV5 quoting overnight data from Nielsen Media Research, the final game of a riveting best-of-seven semifinal playoff between the pro league's two most popular teams was the most watched primetime program in Mega Manila on Wednesday with 10.1 percent AMR and 32.8% shares.
At its peak, the game which San Mig won 110-87 was watched by almost 5.4 million viewers or 12.4% AMR and 48.4% audience share, or close to half of the entire urban individuals nationwide, TV5 said.
Over that same period, the combined viewership of giant networks ABS-CBN and GMA was around three million viewers, it added.
Combined with the viewership on AksyonTV, the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned station's sister channel on the UHF band, that moment generated 14.3% AMR and 56% audience share, TV5 added.
According to TV5, the Game Seven telecast also ranked high in the National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM), garnering 9.3% AMR and 31% share.
"The series was tightly-fought between the two popular ballclubs. I'm amazed at how the fans love both teams and I’m also very happy with the outstanding viewership ratings the PBA semifinals brought to TV5," said TV5 president and CEO Noel Lorenzana.
The match also lured a live attendance record with 24,883 fans in attendance at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Wednesday, surpassing the previous high of 23,436 fans which witnessed Game Three of Ginebra's Commissioner's Cup championship series against Alaska last season which the Aces won.
