THE Cebuana Lhullier PBA Commissioners Cup Finals is proving to be a big hit not only in terms of gate attendance but in TV ratings as well.
According to the latest ratings released by Nielsen Media Research NUTAM data, Game One of the best-of-five series between Barangay Ginebra and Alaska lured an average of 2.5 million television viewers or an average share of 18.4 percent.
During its peak, the series opener averaged over three million viewers or about a 26 percent audience share of primetime viewership for TV5.
A crowd of 19,678 fans packed the Smart-Araneta Coliseum and witnessed Alaska bludgeon crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra, 87-70, for a 1-0 lead in the series.
Prior to the championship series, the PBA board of governors agreed to have the entire Finals shown live on primetime over TV5 instead of its old carrying station IBC-13.
Following the huge audience share it garnered at the start of the series, league officials are optimistic television ratings will continue to soar for the rest of the Finals beginning with Game Two on Friday to be televised live over TV5 at 7:30 p.m.
The games also have simulcast airing on AksyonTV (on Free TV - Channel 41 in Metro Manila, Channel 29 in Metro Cebu and Davao), and will be covered for radio by Radyo5 92.3 NewsFM and on DZSR 918AM.
