EVEN on television, the PBA Governors’ Cup has been a big hit.
The league on Tuesday released the ratings of Game Four of the showdown between Barangay Ginebra and TNT where it drew 4.7 percent on the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) and 4.1 percent in the Philippine National Television Audience Measurement (PHINTAM).

The TV audience, according to the PBA, sent RPTV, the carrying station of the league’s games, to No. 3 in the ratings.
Sunday’s game that saw Barangay Ginebra win over TNT, 106-92, peaked at 5.34 percent or 3.89 million viewers, the PBA added.
According to the press release issued by the league, Game Four was a “new ratings record.”
No data was released on the ratings it surpassed, but as comparison, the PBA previously reported during the 49th Season planning session in Osaka, Japan that Game Six of the 2024 Philippine Cup finals between Meralco and San Miguel last June 16 recorded 2.16 million viewers, 1.73 million less than the peak figures of Game Four of the 2024 Governors’ Cup finals on Sunday.

The number of viewers on television is definitely a positive development for the PBA, which also enjoyed huge figures at the gate after experiencing lean attendance at the games during the elimination round.
A total of 16,783 was on hand for the Gin Kings’ win over the Tropang Giga that tied the series at 2-2, the largest number to attend a PBA game since Game Seven of the Commissioner’s Cup finals between Barangay Ginebra and Bay Area Dragons last year.
