SAN Miguel coach Jorge Gallent isn’t taking the short break in between their two playoff series in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup as a reason for their Game One defeat against Barangay Ginebra on Wednesday.
Instead, Gallent said it is their own undoing that was the reason why the Beermen lost to the Gin Kings, 122-105, in the series opener during the semifinals.

“It’s not a reason kasi nag-rest naman kami ng dalawang araw. Not a reason at all,” said Gallent in a short interview with reporters.
San Miguel was playing its sixth game in 13 days in their semifinal opener against Barangay Ginebra at the Philsports Arena, including the EASL opener against Suwon KT Sonicboom last week,
Instead of pointing at fatigue, Gallent said it was their inability to play defense and be disciplined on offense were the main reasons for their defeat.
In Game One, Justin Brownlee was nearly unstoppable from fours, nailing five of his six shots from that distance on his way to ending up with 33 points.
Brownlee’s four-pointers were all manufactured in the third quarter which led to Ginebra shooting 11-of-21 from the field, and outscoring SMB, 34-20, in the period.
“Walang effort and walang discipline on defense. ‘Yun ‘yung word. No discipline on defense and no patience in offense. That cost us the game,” said Gallent.
EJ Anosike topscored for San Miguel with 27 points, while grabbing eight rebounds, while Marcio Lassiter added 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
June Mar Fajardo had 16 points and 16 rebounds, but made just five of his 10 free throw shots in the Game One loss.
