GABE Norwood feels Mark Yee escaped with a foul while the two players were battling in a jumpball situation that led to the game-sealing play in Rain or Shine’s 98-94 loss to Kia in the PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday night.

With the Elasto Painters down by just two, 96-94, with 12 seconds left, Norwood felt Yee hit him while the two were on the air, but no call was made, leading to the Yee tipping it to Glenn Khobuntin for the fastbreak layup that preserved the Picanto on the way to their first win in eight months.

“I’ve seen it called in the PBA many times, so it’s a foul – enough for him to snicker after,” Norwood said. “I don’t know how you jump in the air, go for a jumpball, I don’t know. He beat me twice in the jumpball doing the same thing.

“I guess it’s a veteran move. I’ve seen that move called for fouls,” he added.

“But kudos to him,” he continued. “He did it and they didn’t call it, and they won. They played better than us.”

Yee insisted he didn’t hit Norwood intentionally.

“Siguro breaks of the game na lang yun. Nagkatapikan na lang siguro yun,” the veteran forward said. “Kasama sa basketball yun eh. Iba naman yung pipilayan mo yung kalaban mo eh, physical yun. Kumbaga basketball lang.”

Norwood, though, is not taking anything from the Picanto in pulling off the upset win over the inconsistent E-Painters.

“At the end of the day, kudos to Kia,” Norwood said. “They’re missing half their team and they came out, everybody stepped up, and we didn’t do our jobs to make it tougher for them. Hats off to them.”

“We were right there in the game, we had chances to win whether it was defensive stops, free throws, open shots, and things like that, so we just got to find a way to win the game,” he added.
