EVEN the head of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) believes Calvin Abueva has suffered long enough to make up for his past mistakes.
"Fifteen months is a long time," said GAB chairman Abraham 'Baham' Mitra, noting that it's already been a while that the eccentric forward has been in limbo following the indefinite suspension imposed upon him by the PBA last year.
Mitra made the remark following his virtual meeting and seminar with the controversial Phoenix star on Monday night as he makes the initial step on having his playing license reinstated by the government sports agency.
It was the first time the GAB chief came face-to-face with Abueva since the Commissioner's Office dropped the ax on the Angeles City native following his incident with former Best Import Terrence Jones in last year's Commissioner's Cup.

The former NCAA MVP from San Sebastian struck Mitra as very lively and active in the one-and-a-half hour meeting they did online.
"OK naman, comfortable naman siya," Mitra said of Abueva. "He participated well, interaction kasi and discussions and ginagawa."
Joining Mitra in the virtual seminar with Abueva were GAB pro games chief June Bautista and GAB official Kara Mallonga.
Phoenix team manager Paolo Bugia was also present.
It's the first of three straight nightly online meetings on The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of a Professional Athlete for Abueva as required by the government agency before he's issued a new license.
"Kailangan sa gabi gawin yung seminar because Phoenix has practice every morning and other activities for the rest of the day," said Mitra.

Aside from the webinar, Mitra mentioned Abueva also has to undergo mandatory drug test as part of the medical requirements.
"We're just waiting for the final day assessment," said Mitra, without elaborating.
But asked if he thinks Abueva is deserving of having his license again and resume his PBA career, the GAB chief answered in the affirmative.
"I really think so," said Mitra.
