DAYS after being relieved of his duties as Petron team consultant, Rajko Toroman said he hopes to meet with management by next week to discuss his future with the San Miguel group.
“I’ll probably meet with management by next week, but for now, I can’t talk about that,” Toroman told Spin.ph, referring to San Miguel Corp.’s decision to give Petron rookie coach Olsen Racela the free hand to run the team without the former national coach by his side.
The 57-year-old former Smart Gilas national mentor no longer joined the team’s practice on Wednesday at the Acropolis gym following management’s announcement to Petron players that Toroman won’t be part of the team anymore. He was also absent from the Big Dome in Friday's game against Globalport.
Toroman has taken a more active role than what his consultant role had called for this season, presiding over sideline huddles and once stripping the diagram board from Racela prior to a timeout.
Toroman said he has been sick the past days, the reason he couldn’t be reached for comment when news of his relief reached the media.
“I really don’t know yet what will happen,” said Toroman, though there had been talks that management might offer him a coaching post with the San Miguel Beermen in the Asean Basketball League (ABL).
