THE Ginebra big man obviously didn't get the memo on his coach's pet peeve.
On Wednesday night, Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone admitted he got angry at second-string big man Raymond Aguilar for scoring “garbage points” late in an 86-76 victory over Meralco at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With the game clock winding down to its final seconds and the Kings already up by 11 points, Aguilar left his coach 'steaming mad' when he scored a basket that increased Ginebra's lead to 86-73.
Cone, who is known to get upset at opponents who run up the score late in blowout games, made no effort to hide his frustrations on the court and let Aguilar hear it before attending the postgame press conference.
“Furious at Raymond for taking that last shot,” Cone said. “I am absolutely steaming. I make a big deal about that not doing it to us and I have a guy that does it. I’m just steaming mad.”
“I went in and yelled at Raymond after the game before I came in here for taking that shot. It shouldn’t be done,” said Cone.
Cone also apologized to Meralco coach Norman Black for the incident.
The two, incidentally, also had a similar encounter when Cone refused to shake Black’s hand after Game Three of the PBA Governors’ Cup finals back in 2017 when Black called a late timeout with the Bolts already holding a big lead.
“Sorry to Norman and Meralco for that last shot,” Cone said.
