Ginebra coach Frankie Lim fined P50,000, suspended one game for hitting Calvin Abueva

    Jun 30, 2015

BARANGAY Ginebra coach Frankie Lim has been slapped with a P50,000 fine and one-game suspension for hitting a fallen player in Alaska forward Calvin Abueva during their PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinal match last Friday.

Lim, who appeared before Commissioner Chito Salud on Tuesday to air his side on the matter, was involved in the commotion late in the third quarter of the Gin Kings’ 114-108 loss to the Aces last Friday when Abueva fell near the Ginebra bench after being pushed by guard LA Tenorio.

The incident was sparked after Abueva and Ginebra import Orlando Johnson got entangled with each other midway through the third period.

Lim appeared to have contact with the fallen Abueva, who, upon standing up, had a heated exchange of words with the Ginebra coach.

The PBA wouldn’t confirm if Lim did hit the enigmatic Alaska guard, only saying it would not elaborate on the fine and suspension meted on the former player turned coach.

Text and calls by to Lim were left unanswered.

He will serve his suspension in the first game of the Philippine Cup next season.

Lim and Abueva have a long history dating back to their NCAA days, where Abueva played for San Sebastian and Lim called the shots for Stags’ rival San Beda Red Lions.
