GILAS Pilipinas cadet Jaydee Tungcab has submitted his application for the upcoming PBA Rookie Draft.
The 6-foot-2 guard from University of the Philippines was a surprise inclusion in the Gilas Pilipinas pool last year after a pedestrian final year with the Fighting Maroons.
The 24-year-old now throws his name in the mix in yet another sign that there will be a special Gilas draft in the March 14 proceedings.
Tungcab averaged 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 6.3 minutes back in UAAP Season 82 as he got lost in the shuffle in coach Bo Perasol's deep guard rotation.
Still, Tungcab seized his opportunities after UP, playing for Batangas Tanduay Athletics in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) where he normed 3.5 points, 2.3 boards, and 1.0 assist in 14.2 minutes through four games.
He was also drafted by Karate Kid-CEU in the PBA D-League, but was unable to play for the Scorpions as the 2020 Aspirants' Cup was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He did make his Gilas debut last November, playing 10 minutes in the Philippines' 93-69 win over Thailand in the second window of the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers in Manama, Bahrain.
Tungcab was reportedly bound for B.League Division 2 team Koshigaya Alphas, but the deal fell through as Japan had to deal with the new strain of COVID-19.
