IT’S going to be a lot of fun and a lot of body aches, too.

While former Ginebra guard Bal David looks forward to the coming ‘Return of Rivals’ benefit games, he also expects aching joints and muscles once the featured doubleheader at the Smart Araneta Coliseum this Sunday is over.

“Parang kaya pa na hindi na,” said a laughing David when asked if he can still run-and-gun up and down the court the way he used to when he still goes by the moniker ‘The Flash’ during his heyday.

Now 46 years old, the 5-foot-9 guard still plays the game from time to time as a regular fixture whenever PBA legends go on tour either in the country or abroad.

But the Legends games are usually for fun and entertainment unlike the one they will have at the Big Dome when pride and tradition will be at stake between four of the most intense rivals in the history of the league.

“Iba pa rin kasi yung ang makakalaro mo yung dating rival mo. Siyempre ayaw nyo ring matalo,” said David.

A two-time champion and four-time All-Star, David will be part of Robert Jaworski’s Ginebra team that will relive its rivalry against the Purefoods franchise in the main game of the special doubleheader organized by the Samahan ng mga Dating Propesyonal na Basketbolista ng Pilipinas Foundation Inc. in partnership with UNTV.

The curtain raiser feature two other rival franchises in San Miguel versus Alaska.

As it is, all four teams have been holding their own practices days leading to the game.

The Kings had theirs at the Corinthians Garden gym near the home of their former playing coach Robert Jaworski.

“Usual warm up lang, shooting drills, then may kaunting scrimmage,” said David of what the Kings did during their Tuesday practice.

Other former Ginebra players around were ‘The Destroyer’ Rudy Distrito, Joey Loyzaga, Pido Jarencio, Bennet Palad, Bobby Jose, Jayvee Gayoso, Dudut Jaworski, EJ Feihl, Wilmer Ong, ‘The Tank’ Noli Locsin, Vince Hizon, and JayJay Helterbrand.

Unable to join them that day were Marlou Aquino and Leo Isaac.

“Na-miss namin ang isa’t-isa. Excited lahat this Sunday,” said David.
