CROATIAN giant Bruno Sundov doesn’t mind getting banged up during games as long as they’re not cheap shots.
Being the tallest import in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at 7-foot-3, Sundov is aware that he'll be the primary target of the opponents’ defense – be it physical or otherwise
But it’s definitely a different story once the pounding gets out of hand.
“I don’t complain about the physicality (of the game) as long as it’s not dirty and as long as it’s no elbow or like pushing me down like what happened earlier,” said Sundov, referring to his skirmish with Barako Bull big man Doug Kramer during the Elasto Painters’ 103-93 win on Wednesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Sundov, one of the five original imports who remain with their respective teams, claimed Kramer tried to play dirty on him several times which obviously caught his ire.
The 33-year-old import said he also plays physical but definitely not dirty.
“It’s (physicality) normal and it’s my job to fight over that. I get that all the time, that’s why if I get mad … but I never say nothing when I get hard fouls or get hit on the head. I don’t react that’s for sure,” he said.
While he may show displeasure at times over the referees’ non-calls, the Croatian center said he just tries to understand that game officials do make mistakes.
“We’re all humans. We all make mistakes just like them (referees). So I’ll just fight through.”
“I get used to playing (through the physicality) now being the tallest guy. It’s a big problem too, because they want to have a piece of me,” said Sundov, who led the Elasto Painters with 27 points and 11 rebounds in the win over the Energy Cola.
