IT’S not exactly the welcome Kevin Ferrer was expecting.
Nonetheless, the veteran gunner was just happy to be back and playing on the court again.
After more than a year of absence, the 31-year-old Ferrer was finally back in a Terrafirma uniform during the Dyip’s debut game in the PBA Governors Cup Wednesday night against Converge at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The University of Santo Tomas alum announced his comeback by scoring 15 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter of a game the Dyip unfortunately lost by a mile, 127-95.
It was the first game of Ferrer since going down with a torn achilles in the pre-season On Tour last year.
“Feeling rookie, pero sobrang saya na nakabalik ulit dito sa liga,” Ferrer said on how he feels playing his first game in a long while.
The Terrafirma veteran said he still has a lot to improve to get back into his playing shape prior to the injury.
That’s why he’s grateful to the Dyip coaching staff for giving him longer playing minutes right in his first game of the season.
“Makakatulong sa akin ito para maka-recover at mapunan yung nawala sa akin nung one year. At ang sarap na makalaro ng ganito ulit,” said Ferrer, who played for 23 minutes.
The two-time champion hopes to get better as the conference goes, but wishes the outcome would be a lot different for the Dyip.
