BARAKO Bull star forward JC Intal made news on Thursday with what at first appeared like a spur-of-the-moment proposal to actress/TV host girlfriend Bianca Gonzales at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Now, details revealed by the couple's closest friends showed the slam-dunk proposal was the product of a game plan mapped out and perfectly executed by JC with the help of friends and family.
“It was long planned by JC,” said Intal’s best friend and former Ateneo teammate Doug Kramer. “He wanted to make it memorable so we helped him out."
The plan, Kramer said, started with Intal giving Gonzalez the "cold treatment," just days before the popular TV host was to leave for London for a two-week study grant.
"I told him to give Bianca the cold treatment days before she leaves for London,” said the San Miguel big man, who along with his actress wife Chesca, helped out Intal in the proposal.
As a result, Gonzalez was alone at the airport and "leaving with a heavy heart" as she went through the usual immigration proceedings - until her name was called out on the public address system.
“Nagulat siya siyempre, bakit nga naman siya pinapabalik sa immigration,” recalled Kramer.
“Tapos pagbalik ni Bianca sa immigration, andun na kami lahat nagbigay kami ng flowers. Pero wala pa si JC, until lumabas yung sign sa immigration board na: “Will you say yes?”
Then Intal came out of nowhere, a small box in his hand.
As cameras and cellphones from friends and surprised fellow passengers flashed around them, Intal popped the question while down on his knees.
“Of course, of course,” was all the teary-eyed Gonzalez could muster as the crowd began to clap and congratulate the couple.
Kramer bared that it was one of the most heartwarming occasions he has seen, which he compared to a Hollywood movie scene.
“Napaluha din ako. Best friend ko si JC, ever since 2002 magkasama na kami. Tapos biglang finally nag-propose na siya towards marriage,” he said.
“Kaya nung tinanong niya kami ni Chesca kahit busy kami nagpunta kami.”
The newly engaged couple, according to friends, is planning to hold the wedding next year.
