SIXTEEN Filipino-foreigners have applied for the PBA Draft set on August 23 at Robinson’s Place Manila.
Projected first-round picks Chris Newsome of Ateneo and La Salle’s Norbert Torres lead the new applicants along with Maverick Ahanmisi of Café France, AMA’s Jeramy King, and Aly Austria of Cagayan Valley.
Mike di Gregorio of Keramix, Kris Rosales of Jumbo Plastic, Jawhar Purdy of Wang’s, Leo de Vera of San Sebastian, Ryan Wetherell of the Laguna BUSA Warriors in the Filsports Basketball League, and Dale Hodges of Canberra University complete the updated list.
Consensus top pick Moala Tautuaa, Abel Galliguez, Simon Enciso, Randy Dilay, and Joshua Cubillo declared for the draft earlier.
Deadline for Fil-foreigners to make themselves available for the Draft was June 30.
Ahanmisi was a vital cog in the Bakers’ title run in the Foundation Cup and was labeled as a possible ‘steal of the draft’ by coach Egay Macaraya, while King holds the D-League scoring record along with Allan Mangahas with 40 points.
Di Gregorio is a nephew of former NBA Rookie of the Year Ernie di Gregorio, while Wetherell once suited up for the University of South Carolina Trojan.
The unknown Fil-Australian Hodges is the oldest applicant so far at 31 years old.
Homegrown players have until August 7 to apply before the league releases the final list three days before the draft.
