Ex-Tamaraws star RR Garcia hoping for an FEU win to atone for another Barako Bull

RR Garcia was obviously dejected with Barako Bull’s 110-104 loss to Rain or Shine Friday night in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup.

And only one thing could console him.

“Sana makuha na namin,” he said, referring to Far Easter University finally winning the UAAP men’s basketball championship on Saturday against University of Santo Tomas.

“Maganda nga sana nanalo kami (ngayon), tapos panalo rin (bukas)."

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be as the Energy lost for the second straight time to fall at 3-4 despite a team-high 23 points from Garcia.

The former FEU King Tamaraw had been taking charge for Barako Bull the past few games, exactly what coach Koy Banal wanted him to do.

“Bad start kasi ako this conference, kaya sabi sa akin ni coach, ‘Mag-good start ka naman.' So naging challenge sa akin yun,” he said.

Since Banal made the suggestion, Garcia has taken it upon himself to take charge for the Energy, who at one point in their campaign, were above the .500 mark at 3-2.

But back-to-back losses to defending champion San Miguel and the Elasto Painters pushed the team back to the lower half of the standings.

Still, Garcia believes Barako Bull’s campaign in the all-Filipino campaign remains bright especially with the Energy more than just a one-man team.

“Hindi lang naman kasi ako ang gumagawa dito. May Willy Wilson, JC Intal, Josh Urbiztondo. Tulungan kami, hindi lang naman isang player ang nagpapanalo sa team,” he stressed.
