Feeling of helplessness for Fajardo as he watches teammates fall to Ginebra

    Dec 25, 2013

JUNE Mar Fajardo admitted being enveloped by a sense of helplessness after watching Barangay Ginebra’s young frontline duo of Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter dominate Petron Blaze without him on Christmas day.

With each highlight reel dunk by Aguilar or Slaughter’s hook shots over shorter Petron defender Doug Kramer, the 6-10 Fajardo could only watch in horror as the team he has led to the top in the PBA Philippine Cup dropped its second straight match with him riding the bench due to injury.

    They Said It!

“Naawa din kasi ako sa mga teammates ko, gusto ko silang tulungan pero wala naman
akong magawa." - injured Petron center June Mar Fajardo

“Di ako sanay eh kasi gusto ko nga maglaro, pero di naman puwede,” Fajardo said with a tinge of disappointment in his voice after sitting out on Wednesday’s much-awaited Christmas Day match against Ginebra due to an MCL sprain on his right knee.

Fajardo said the Aguilar-Slaughter tandem is a force to be reckoned with in the league today, which is a big reason why Kramer and reigning MVP Arwind Santos both failed to contain the Ginebra big men in a 97-83 victory - Ginebra's fifth in a row and eighth in nine games overall.

“Maganda nilalaro nila  (Aguilar and Slaughter). Saka sobrang lakas nila. Nahirapan kami dahil undersized mga big men namin,” added Fajardo, who was averaging 15.5 points, 17.2 rebounds and 3.0 blocks before hurting his right knee during Monday’s practice at the Reyes gym.

When asked if he feels he could have prevented Slaughter or Aguilar from dominating inside if he was playing, Fajardo didn’t give a straight answer.

“Di ko rin masasabi eh.  Basta ... eh maganda naman ginawa ni Doug saka Arwind na naka double-double din. Eh halo-halong emosyon eh. Naawa din kasi ako sa mga teammates ko, gusto ko silang tulungan pero wala naman
akong magawa,” said the 24-year-old pride of Pinamungahan, Cebu.

Fajardo said he intends to rest his right knee for another week and hopefully, he could make his projected return on January 8 when the Boosters play the Barako Bull Energy.
