BARAKO Bull team manager Raffy Casyao said Rajko Toroman has yet to sign a contract because they are also considering the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines’s (BCAP) expected stance against the foreign coach's hiring.
“I’ll be honest with you, baka maging issue iyan (BCAP’s reaction). Isa iyan sa kino-consider namin as we discuss our contract with coach Rajko,” Casyao told Spin.ph.
“We want to take this well because we are preparing ourselves for whatever battles we might be facing ahead. Si coach Rajko din, hinahanda namin kaya continuous ang talk namin,” he added.
Casyao said one option they are considering is the coaching setup the 57-year-old Toroman had during his brief stint with Petron Blaze in the PBA Philippine Cup.
While Toroman was officially named team consultant of the Boosters during the season-opening conference, the Serbian mentor shared coaching duties with rookie coach Olsen Racela for a brief time.
The former Iran national champion coach acted like a head coach — hollering instructions from the sidelines during games, presiding the team’s practice and diagramming plays during time out.
“Isa sa kino-consider namin eh yung maging consultant siya ng team while also helping us run the practice and games (alongside top assistant coach Bong Ramos). I think for a time, it worked for Petron and we are looking at that possibility,” noted the Barako Bull executive.
Casyao added they are now finalizing the details of Toroman’s contract where the franchise hopes to come out with an official announcement this coming week.
Meanwhile, Ramos said he sees no reason why he and Toroman can’t co-exist at the Barako Bull bench.
“Iyung ensayo okay naman. I see some positive things. Actually nakikita ko na yung ginagawa nya, pero during nakalaban ko siya nung 2011 against Gilas. But I don’t know the details on how he’s doing it. But I’m learning from coach Rajko because he has been coaching for a long time,” said Ramos.
