MARC Pingris, an emotional wreck moments after San Mig Coffee bagged the PBA Governors Cup championship Friday night, got some ribbing from his celebrated father-in-law on nationa television.
Popular host and comedian Vic Sotto extended his congratulations to son-in-law Pingris and the rest of the Mixers on Saturday afternoon in the long-running noontime variety show Eat Bulaga.
While he commended 'Ping' for a job well done, Sotto also ribbed San Mig forward after his son-in-law shed tears of joy for winning yet another title for the SMC franchise.
“Ang lakas rumebound pero iyakin, ano yun?”, said a poker-faced Sotto, drawing laughter from the audience.
Pingris, married to Sotto’s actress-daughter Danica, finished with 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a yeoman’s job in an 87-77 San Mig Coffee win over Petron in Game Seven of the Finals watched by a crowd of 21,000 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
He was later named Finals MVP by the PBA Press Corps.
“Nag-pray kami ng wife ko kagabi, sabi namin win or lose we will praise the Lord,” said the pride of Pozzorubbio, Pangasinan, the ripped basketball net hanging from his neck while clutching the MVP plaque as he addressed the Big Dome crowd.
“At sa lahat ng San Mig fans, kayo po ang nagbibigay ng lakas sa amin. Ang inisip ko laro lang talaga,” added Pingris as his voice began to crack.
The Gilas Pilipinas mainstay got a pat on the back from Sotto who was quick to make a segue just as the show’s popular portion `Juan For All’ was about to start.
“Congratulations pala sa San Mig Coffe for winning the championship, lalo na doon sa tinuturuan kong basketball player si Marc Pingris,” said the man everybody referred to as `Bossing.’
Asked by co-host Jose Manalo if he’s the one who personally trains and gives pointers to his son-in-law, Sotto quickly responded positively.
“Oo naman, kaya lang hindi niya sinusunod `yung mga tinuturo ko,” he said, drawing yet another round of laughter in the studio.
