JUNE Mar Fajardo rued his foul trouble after seeing San Miguel get ambushed by seventh-seed Air21, 92-79, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 6-foot-10 Fajardo picked up three quick fouls during the first 15 minutes of the game, forcing San Miguel coach Biboy Ravanes to ground him on the bench for the rest of the first half.
When the former No. 1 pick overall returned to action in the third period, Fajardo was called for his fourth foul at the 7:30 mark, which easily took him out of his rhythm.
“Na-foul trouble agad ako, nabawasan yung minutes ko,” rued the big man from Cebu, who only took three attempts in 24 minutes of play but managed to grab 10 rebounds.
His menacing inside presence, though, was sorely missed by the Beermen for much of the game.
Without Fajardo patrolling the paint, Air21 big man Asi Taulava scored 17 points, while Fil-Canadian forward Sean Anthony scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half.
“Na-outwork nila (Express) kami, pero hopefully, maka-adjust kami for the next game,” added the 24-year-old young center.
Fajardo, however, vowed to come out stronger on Friday as he tries to redeem himself and help the Beermen avoid the embarrassment of wasting their twice-to-beat advantage against the Express.
“Challenge ko na rin yun sa sarili ko na maging aggressive ako sa next game kesa sa kanya (Taulava),” he added.
