JUNE Mar Fajardo simply can't do it alone.
Game Three was proof of that as the five-time PBA MVP had to bleed for his 17 points and 14 rebounds against a bevy of Magnolia Hotshots in an 86-82 defeat that left San Miguel 1-2 behind in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals.
"Nahihirapan din ako rumebound kasi ang daming nagba-box out sa akin. Tina-try ko naman kumuha ng rebound pero ganun nga yung nangyayari," Fajardo said after the Beermen were beaten in the battle for the boards, 71-46.
To turn the tide, Fajardo thinks San Miguel should tear a page out of Magnolia's playbook.
"Kailangan gang rebounding din talaga kami," he said, pointing to how the Hotshots frontcourt rotation of Rafi Reavis (15 rebounds), Ian Sangalang (15), Kyle Pascual (5), and Aldrech Ramos (5) and even defender Rome dela Rosa (10) easily outrebounded the entire Beermen crew.
Fajardo admitted that Magnolia made the right adjustments after the Game Two loss. Now it's San Miguel's turn to adjust, he added.
"Maganda yung adjustments nila, pero long series ito at kailangan naming mag-adjust," he said. "Talo kami ngayon dahil ang dami naming lapses. Kailangan yung long shots namin, hindi namin madaliin kasi sabi nga ni coach, hindi yun ang game namin eh.
"Set-up yung game namin, hindi takbuhan, so kailangan naming sundin ang game plan namin."
