ONLY the doctors’ go-signal is needed for June Mar Fajardo to finally play his comeback game for San Miguel in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
And if ever, the seven-time MVP could be back in action in the Beermen’s final game in the eliminations against Blackwater on Friday.
“June Mar is doing good, he’s recovering well, and I think if the doctor gives him the go-signal, I think he can play in our next game against Blackwater,” said coach Jorge Gallent on Sunday following the Beermen’s 132-110 blowout of Terrafirma Dyip at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“We’ll see what the doctors say about June Mar.”
San Miguel already reactivated the 34-year-old big man after recovering from a metacarpal fracture on his left hand that made him miss the last six games of the team.
Fajardo was in uniform against Terrafirma but didn’t play.
In his absence, import Bennie Boatwright took care of business for the Beermen, finishing with a career-high 51 points.
But while Fajardo appeared on the way to recovery, another San Miguel big in Rodney Brondial went down with a left sprained ankle in the game against Terrafirma, limiting him to just three minutes of action.
Gallent sees no problem with that.
“If Rodney rests his foot and June Mar comes in, that’s very good for our team. At least June Mar is coming back,” said the San Miguel coach. “But I really don’t know about Rodney because I haven’t spoken to him. But in case he’s injured, I just hope it’s very minor.”
San Miguel is currently on a four-game winning run for a 7-3 record as it bids to finish the elimination on a winning note to have a shot at a twice-to-beat advantage come the playoffs.
