Fajardo on track for 10th PBA season MVP with a conference to go

IS June Mar Fajardo on track to win a 10th PBA MVP award.

Going by the current trend, it appeared to be that way as the San Miguel Beer center is again on top of the race for the league’s highest individual honor.

With two conferences completed, Fajardo leads all players vying for the Season 50 MVP in the cumulative Average Statistical Points heading to the Governors’ Cup.

The 36-year-old Cebuano garnered 29.8sps ahead of Robert Bolick of NLEX (26.7sps), Converge rookie Juan Gomez De Liano (23.6sps), Magnolia’s Zavier Lucero (23.3sps), and Converge sophomore Justin Baltazar (23.2sps).

The 6-foot-10 Fajardo got the bulk of his statistical points in the Philippine Cup where San Miguel reigned supreme anew. He ended up topping the players’ statistics and bagged his 13th Best Player of the Conference award and became the recipient of the very first Ramon Fernandez Finals MVP trophy.

The All-Filipino Cup accounted for 40 percent of the players’ cumulative statistical points,

Through 37 games so far this season, Fajardo is averaging 17.0 points and leads the league in rebounding with 16.1, and 3.3 assists.

    Barangay Ginebra’s RJ Abarrientos, who won the Best Player of the Conference award in the Commissioner’s Cup, only ranked No.6 in the MVP race at 22.8sps as Bolick emerged the player with the highest statistical points during the mid-season tournament.

    The Commissioner’s Cup accounts for 30 percent of the players’ cumulative statistical points and the remaining 30 percent to be determined in the Governors’ Cup.

    Abarrientos’ Ginebra teammate Scottie Thompson placed seventh with 22.61sps, followed by San Miguel’s CJ Perez with 22.57sps, Joshua Munzon of Titan Ultra with 22.3sps, and Justin Arana of Converge with 21.2sps.

    Munzon is currently ranked as the season’s top scorer with an average of 20.6 points and is likewise No. 1 in steals with 2.4 per game.

    Bolick remains the No. 1 assists man at 8.3 per game, while Lucero shows the way in block shots with 2.0 per contest.
