JUNE Mar Fajardo said he doesn't expect to sit out the deciding game of San Miguel's PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinal series against TNT KaTropa despite sustaining a knee injury late in Game Two on Friday night.
The five-time league MVP felt he hyperextended his knee during a fierce battle for the rebound against three TNT players including Troy Rosario, who also accidentally hit Fajardo in the forehead with an elbow.
“Pag talon ko, biglang may bumangga tapos na-hyperextend,” Fajardo explained.
After being taken out, Fajardo returned late in the fourth quarter and even scored back-to-back baskets to tie the game at 86. But a three-pointer by Troy Rosario allowed TNT to pull away for a 93-88 Game Two victory.
Fajardo wasn't bothered by the cut he suffered in the forehead as a result of the Rosario elbow, but sounded more worried about the knee.
“Okay lang sa noo. Wag lag sa tuhod. Hindi problema ‘yun,” said Fajardo.
“Puwede siguro,” said Fajardo, when asked if he can play in Game Three.
More than the injury, Fajardo said he was more disappointed with the loss that endangered the Beermen's quest for a fifth successive all-Filipino title.
“Medyo masakit. Pero mas masakit na natalo kami. Pero okay lang ‘yun. Ganun talaga. Hindi naman madali kalaban ‘yung Talk ‘N Text."
“Kailangan namin sa ngayon, magpahinga. Bukas kailangan namin tignan sa viewing ‘yung mali namin, mga lapses namin. Sana maganda ‘yung adjustments namin,” said Fajardo.
“Expect namin na hindi madali ‘yung Game Three. Sana maipanalo namin, makapag-adjust kami ng maayos at makapagpahinga ng maayos. Kailangan namin ipanalo ‘yung Game Three kasi ayaw pa namin magbakasyon."
