FORMER teammates Beau Belga and Jeff Chan got into an exchange of words in the fourth quarter of Game Three of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

Belga and Chan were called for technical fouls due to a verbal altercation between the two. Prior to the incident, Belga was called for a foul away from the ball when he collided with Joe Devance.

Belga said the incident is just part of the game. The two former Rain or Shine teammates even spoke to each other after the game.

“Wala, kasama sa laro ‘yun,” Belga said. “Pinisikal ako, pipisikalin ko rin. Kung sino unang ma-pikon, ‘yun ang talo. Alam kong sa sarili ko, laro lang ‘yun.”

“After the game, nagkabatian kami ni Jeff na sinabi namin sa isa’t isa, hindi naman tayo magka-away. Na-technical pa tayo parehas, tawanan na lang kami. Sabi ko, ‘Ikaw kasi eh.’ Pero it’s part of the game. Walang samaan ng loob,” said Belga.

Belga said Chan knows him well not to take the incident personally.

“Teammate ko si Jeff for seven years. Kahit nasa kabilang team ka, meron ka pa rin respeto sa dati mong kasamahan,” said Belga.

Belga’s Elastopainters fell behind by as many as 25 points but came back only to lose by three to the Kings, 75-72. Ginebra now takes a 2-1 series lead in the Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

Following the comeback that fell short, Belga strongly believes they can beat Barangay Ginebra in Game Four and force a rubber match.

“Kaya naman eh. Down by 20 sa fourth quarter, nahabol eh. Alam namin sa sarili namin na pag gusto namin, kaya namin talunin Ginebra,” Belga said.

Belga commended his team for not giving up after trailing by 20 points entering the fourth quarter. Rain or Shine began the final canto on a 9-0 run to come to within 11 points, 61-50, and the Elastopainters even closed the gap even further.

“From the start of the game, papatambak ka ng 20 mahigit, iisipin mo, play the game na lang, matatapos na lang. Pero wala, nagpursigi kami… Hopefully, maging confidence booster sa amin ‘yung hinabol namin ‘yung malaking lead… It’s a matter of who wants to win and who wants to sacrifice,” Belga added.

There is a drawback though about coming back from big deficits, said Belga. He hopes it won’t be the same story for Game Four.

“Mahirap manalo ng down ka ng ganun kalaki. Idikit lang namin. Last game, dikit ang laro pero pagdating sa dulo, na-survive namin. Kailangan lang namin ayusin ‘yung start namin.
